Perhaps you have in mind that the carob, a very common fruit in the Mediterranean, is a food that is used mainly for livestock. It used to be said that it was a “food for poor people”, and even the same farmers abandoned or reconverted those crops that nobody wanted.<\/p>\n

But after many scientific studies that point to it as a quality product with many beneficial properties, carob can also be eaten! These have been put in the crosshairs of nutrition lovers, pastry chefs and chefs and have given them back the place they deserve. Currently, not only animals consume it. It is also used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, flour is extracted for confectionery, and it is used as a sweetener or as a thickener, among other uses.<\/p>\n

Apart from the nutritional benefits, the carob tree is considered an ally against climate change and the greenhouse effect. According to the Aquae Foundation<\/a>, a person needs between 7,200 and 8,600 liters of oxygen every day, which is equivalent to 22 trees per day to produce the necessary air to live. Well, it is said that in 30 years of life that the carob tree has, it is capable of absorbing up to 90 kg of CO2 in a year. And not only has that, the carob tree, in addition to being highly productive, easily adapted to dry climates, facilitating soil restoration and combating floods or desertification.<\/p>\n
